Ratings & Reviews
This was our first time in St. Maarten. We were extremely happy at the Divi. The grounds are well-landscaped and there are beautiful views from both sides. Our room overlooked Great Bay and it was lovely. The unit was well-furnished, spacious, and attractive. It is a well-maintained resort and all of the staff were exceptionally helpful; housekeeping does a great job and the landscaping is well-attended. We enjoyed the pools and did not ever find them crowded. We enjoyed dinner at Pure Ocean, but spent much time getting out and about....would recommend a car for that. It was easy to get around from the Divi, and the island is easy to navigate. Beautiful beaches...both at the resort and around the island. Having had a terrific week, we hope to return!
We enjoyed every minute at the Divi! Absolutely beautiful location! We had a great one bedroom suite - with views of Phillipsburgh & the cruise ships from our private deck. Choice of 3+ pools & private beach made this a great spot! Always found chairs to sit in ...not too crowded. There were some ladies waking the beach offering "aloe massages" - but they were polite & accepted no thank you. 3 on property restaurants - food was good. We ended up eating off property most nights despite our all-inclusive. I'd advise against the all-inclusive - as there are so many great places to eat all close by! Resort is beautiful. Well landscaped. Staff is friendly. Our room was perfect! Would definitely recommend this resort for couples or families!!
Highly recommend this hotel. It was our first time at st.martin and I think we've made the right choice. It's located far enough from philipsburg but still within walking distance. We didn't go for all inclusive option and instead are at nearby gingerbread cafe. Beach is amazing, not crowded with perfect sand. 20 min from grand case if you want French food. Also have a small grocery store on site with everything you can possibly need.
First of all I will start with the positives: the location is the best spot on the island. Our room was steps to the beach, and the water was crystal clear and beautiful. Being on a peninsula was great, it was private. Food at the bar was above average. We were all inclusive, so we had lunch here a few times and dinner one night during our stay. The burger, Caesar salad and chicken satay were all lovely. And that's about where the positives end. Let me preface this by saying during this trip, my boyfriend proposed to me and it was my 30th birthday. Upon arrival, they tried to sucker us into a time share. My fiancé and I agreed to do a tour because we felt on the spot and we were given a discount on an excursion and gave 20 dollars as a deposit. We then went to our room, which was two beds instead of the king we booked. Because of the location of the room, we didn't complain, we were on the far left first floor, and could walk right out to the beach. The day before our tour, my fiancé proposed so we wanted to spend that day with each other, relaxing. We called the front desk to cancel, and the lady at the front desk was so rude and told us to come down to get the deposit. We walked right down, she gave us a grief about not wanting to do the tour, and refused to give us the deposit. She had just told us to come get it, and then says come back at the time of the tour to collect the money. At that point, we said whatever, and didn't come back for the money, we will pay full price for the excursion and lose the 20 bucks. On the day of my birthday, the day before the excursion , we jet skied at the resort. When my fiancé went to retrieve his credit card, the girl at the hut said his last name and said oh, your excursion is cancelled because of "swells." My fiancé then went to the original concierge, Sophia, who we booked the tour and excursion through, to see what was going on. And she asked why we didn't show up for the tour, we said we called, we came to get our deposit and the other concierge would not give it to us. She never relayed the message that we cancelled. Sophia then admitted she was upset we didn't go on the tour because she gets a commission. Who admits that?!? Awful customer service. My fiancé then books another excursion and asks Sophia for a recommendation on where to take me for my 30th birthday dinner. She says "Skipjacks" is really nice and gives him a coupon for 10 percent off. Everything they do here is for their own self gain. I work in the service industry and I realize that she would then in return get 10 percent gift card herself from the total of our bill. My fiancé reads the reviews for skipjacks (which is a chain that we have at home) and it says the food is so so and there are rats everywhere. That is her recommendation? For my 30th birthday? Nice! He found a restaurant on the French side Ocean 82 and we had an amazing dinner. Then, to see what really was going on, he called the boat for the excursion. Asked if it was going out, they say yes it sure is, but sorry, it's full. He says oh great! Gives his last name and says we are booked, wanted to make sure it was going out. When he gave the last name, the girl then immediately says "oh no! We aren't going out tomorrow" so, obviously at this point we realize that they are in cahoots with Sophia. Also, if you do all inclusive, be prepared to be ignored when trying to get drinks. The only nice bartender told us that the all inclusive customers complain because top shelf isn't included (and thinks like absolute that aren't considered top shelf arent) and that they are given grief everyday so they will avoid you like the plague. Besides her, there was another friendly woman and man that serve the breakfast buffet. No one else was friendly, would say hello or try to give you good service. I've been to many islands in the Caribbean and resorts in Mexico and staff always goes above and beyond to make you smile, not here though. So overall, the location is amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better spot and that was the saving grace this trip. Our room was double beds instead of a king, smelled of mold and besides three staff members, everyone was rude and seemed to hate their job. If it hadn't been such a great spot my fiancé said he would have packed our stuff and headed to Anguilla after the first 2 days. If you stay here, rent a car and explore the island. We loved cupecoy beach and as I mentioned Ocean 82 for dinner on the French side of the island. Orient beach also had excellent service and friendly people who loved their job and wanted to serve you.
I stayed here through a timeshare swap with my wife, 3 year old daughter and 1 year old daughter. The Divi is an older resort and it shows. Let me start by saying that all of the staff was friendly and most helped when it was needed. The lobby was renovated and it gives a little of a false impression of the resort. The rooms- I do understand that this is a timeshare property and If you are not an owner at this property you get whatever rooms are available. we stayed in a studio that needed some repairs and it showed. There was visible damage to the baseboard molding and walls. The cheap paper crown molding (yes I said paper) had holes in it. The jacuzzi tub looked like it was thrown in the corner and not installed properly. It was dirty and had corrosion on the chrome parts. The tile grout in the shower had mold and bad caulking job. The stovetop was not working properly and we had to call for maintenance to come to fix it. After my 1 year old crawled on the floor for a few minutes her legs were black from the dirty tile. I guess they don't clean the floors properly as well. Our room was on first floor and there was always mosquitos flying around. The sleeper sofa mattress is impossible the sleep on and need to be replaced. Some of the areas of the room were dusty and some of the towels we received were dirty. My sister in law had a one bedroom and it was in much better condition. Pools- There are 3 pools at the resort and they did not seem like the were cleaned daily like most resorts. A pool should not have leaves and sand early In the day. The infinity pool is tiny, cold and area was quite. The sea breeze pool had to many people in it for its size and not enough chairs. Again this pool didn't seem that clean due to the foam in the middle of it. The last pool was on the other end of the resort from our room. It was by the puroclean restaurant. It is the biggest pool of the 3 and also the nicest. It did have leaves and sand in it early in the morning but the water was clear. This was the pool that we mostly used during our stay. Beach- No complaint about the beach. It is St. Martin! But....if you have a car don't cheat yourself. Venture out and take the 20min. ride to Orient Beach which is much nicer. Food- we ate at sea breeze and gizmos restaurant. Sea breeze we did not care for but we enjoyed gizmos. There is a supermarket on the resort with a variety of groceries and reasonable prices compared to the grocery stores outside the resort. This is not a resort that makes you want to stay on the property for the entire vacation. We had a car and only stayed on the property for one entire day. We left and explored the island most of our trip. This is at most a 3 star resort and I would probably explore other resort options before staying here again but would consider it again.
