We've been traveling to the Divi Little Bay Resort in St. Maarten for over 25 years and were heartbroken to hear about all the damage from Hurricane Irma. Our normal reservation is for late May, so we were very pleased to hear they were re-opening at the beginning of May, 2018. We intentionally went to the island as they rely on tourist dollars. The Divi is still a great place. Construction on renovation of the resort was in full swing when we were there. About 25% of the resort was open, with basically new rooms. That was nice. The beach is still one of the best beaches on the whole island. It isn't necessary to drive elsewhere, unless you want to explore. Some of the island's best restaurants were destroyed, but others were back in business. Our favorite was Emilio's, where chef Dino Jagtiani has moved after the destruction of his restaurant Temptation. He's still top chef. Front Street is going strong and the island hasn't lost any of its beauty nor it's friendly locals. I suggest you visit at your earliest convenience.
Despite the recent hurricane, Divi has really made progress in getting the resort back together..the staff was extremely friendly and any questions we had there was always someone there to answer quickly. At the time we went it was not very busy so it was almost like having the resort all to ourselves...my only issues were there was not many resort activities and the food options at the resort were limited...however we can all agree it was one of our favorite trips so far
Pros- location location location. We had an ocean view room and I don't think there is a bad room as far as the view. We stayed in a deluxe one bedroom very spacious with a full kitchen. Car rental, jet skis, paddle boards all on site. If you stay here find Alex he works for the resort he is incredible. He has so many ideas for things to where to eat and the places did not disappoint. He knows about the best beaches and shopping and is a really awesome guy. Cons-still recovering from the hurricane so there is some construction noise. No Kids club. Only one of three pools open. The main restaurant was still not opened, but sea breeze makes a great burger and jerk wings. Our room had this sewer smell and it's really difficult to get rid of. We asked for a new room, but they claimed they didn't have another room. They provided lots of candles which helped, but.....the smell never went away. Oh and the island has ZERO traffic lights so it's like the wild Wild West driving. We survived but no traffic lights seems crazy when you are used to lights.
Stayed here May 29 to June 7 and was very pleased!! They are still renovating but this didn't get in our way! Juliana the Consiege was very nice and a lot of fun, our housekeeper was wonderful in every way, the bellman, Victor, Alexander and Roger were awesome and were there to help always! Our room was 2028 and it was beautiful. We had a wonderful view of the water, our room was like brand new with no musty odor due to the humidity and ocean. We will definitely be back. Looking forward to the new Pureocean, new Gizmo bar and pools!!
Our 5 time at Divi we love this place. The private little bay is awesome. We have snorkled at many beaches and find ourselves always going back to divi for great snorkeling. The folks that work there could not be more friendly and grateful we are there. Same staff year after year they always welcome us back. They are still recovering from the last hurricane and had only been open 3 weeks. Our family felt we had everything we needed. Thank you Divi.
