Great bar and wifi

We really only visited this bar because we needed to do some computer work while in port on a cruise. However, the wifi was EXCELLENT, and what better way to do business than with a cocktail or beer! Service was excellent, too!

Holland House is doing OK.

We went to St Martin to wait for our ship, SV Mandalay We stayed here, since it was close to the dock, and the beach. The hotel was fully open, although not all rooms. The top floor was closed. The restaurant, bar, and beach bar were open and nice. Food and drinks were excellent. The beach was open and very nice, and the beach chair service was good, as were the food and drink we ordered from the beach. Nearby buildings were all damaged, and many closed. There was damage to be seen along the road across town. The French side was repeatedly reported to be in much worse shape. The airport arrivals building, immigration, and baggage claim was in a large tent at Princess Juliana Airport. We didn't depart from there, so can't comment of departures. Many of the hotel rooms are damaged, but also many hotels are in at least partial operation. The cruise ships are there almost daily, and shops along Front Street are open,

Great Experience

From the moment you arrive the staff will treat you royally. The owner is very charming and friendly with ample knowledge of the island. A great place to relax right on the beach. You can see the cruise ships come in and out. The sunsets are marvelous

We fell in love with this place

The Holland house was nothing short of an amazing hotel. As soon as we entered, the staff was so friendly. We stayed for seven days in an ocean view suite. I have a severe food allergy and the Holland house was very accommodating, I couldn't thank them enough. We were very impressed with how well this hotel recovered from the hurricane. It inspired us to come travel and support. We are so excited to return. Cheers holland house! You all made such an amazing impact on our lives.

Noisy room and terrible customer service

I was extremely disappointed with this hotel. I booked a room for three nights (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Both the television and the phone in the room didn't work, and the air conditioner leaked onto the floor, but the real problem was the constant, loud, banging noises all night long. The wind blew against the sliding glass doors, which sounded like someone was constantly knocking on the glass throughout the night. The cars on the street blasted their radios well into the night, and the rattling of the glass doors was very unnerving while trying to sleep. In the morning I asked the man at the front desk for another room and was informed that all rooms on the quiet (water view) side were booked, and the rooms on the mountain/street side would all be windy. I was offered a lesser room on the first floor facing the street, which also had loose sliding glass doors. He said I could check back later to see if there was any cancellations. I told him if they couldn't find a quiet room for me for that night, I would have to change hotels. Later that afternoon I asked the same gentleman at the front desk if there was any solution for my problem and he said there still wasn't a quieter room available. I told him I would be checking out of the hotel and verified twice that I would get a refund for the two nights that I would not be staying there. He confirmed that fact repeatedly, and offered to help me find another hotel, which was very nice. I told him I was going to shower, pack my things, book a room at another hotel and come back down to check out. He said he was leaving soon but would let his colleague know, and again assured me the refund wouldn't be a problem. When I went to check out an hour and a half later, the woman who was now behind the front desk told me I would only be refunded one night's charge. I explained all the details to her and she was adamant that it was "too late" to get a refund. She even telephoned the gentleman I dealt with earlier to confirm what I was telling her. She still told me she would not refund both nights and said the man should not have said I would. When I said I wanted to speak with the manager she told me I could "call him Monday." This was on Saturday. The rude, abrupt and disrespectful treatment I received was completely unacceptable and unnecessary. She eventually went to a back office and then reluctantly refunded my money for two nights, as originally promised. I relocated to a different hotel about 15 minutes away, where the room was spectacular, the service at the reception desk and restaurants was courteous and professional, and the cost turned out to be exactly one dollar more per night than Holland House. I regret that I originally picked the Holland House--I missed a full nights sleep on Friday and got aggravated and disrespected on Saturday. Luckily I know that employee does not represent the good people of St. Maarten but she does represent that hotel.
