A resort we will visit again!

My fiancee and I wanted to get away from the cold weather this year, and we stumbled upon this resort in search of a place to stay. A little under 4 stars the hotel was credited for, I feel it should be more than that! First I want to give acknowledgement to the unbelievable dedication of every staff member located at the Sonesta Hotel. I will not go through every single detail, since there would be a list that towers Mount Everest, but I will give credit to each individual by name for making our trip one of the best we had in a while. Marcia, Edrick, and Innocent, our butlers who took very good care of us every single moment and day while we stayed at Sonesta. Shantal, Jovanni, and Esmond in the front lobby catered to our requests, making it easy to acquire things such as cabs and directions. Rehenna, the only person at the bar I want to mention because she was filled with smiles and jokes every time we ordered drinks. She even sent us drinks without us having to get up and get them. Lastly, my fiancee and I want to give our biggest recognition to the buffet staff located downstairs. Anthony, the supervisor (tall dark and handsome) greeted us every single time we came to eat. Melissa and Marcal, the hosts who talked with us, giving us insight on what to do or where to go, while we waited for our seats. Penka, the amazing omelet chef from Bulgaria, kept the omelet line entertained while she prepared our meals. Jonathan and Malcolm, two servers who went above and beyond, when either of us asked for specific things like ice cream in the evening hours. Finally, our two most favorite people, Erika and Germaine!!! These two came over and chatted with us, joked and even danced. You can see the sadness on their faces when we were leaving. That made us feel more than guests at the Sonesta Resort, that made us feel more like their friends. (Small shoutouts go to Audrey who worked downstairs at the Lava Rock, Nutessa who worked at Pescatori upstairs, Tamika and Audi who are our Massage therapists) We will be visiting here again in the future thanks to the staff that made it feel worth it.

The resort/hotel is showing its age but overall it is a nice, peaceful place to stay. The resort is very clean, enjoyable pools and a great beach. The food in all restaurants was very, very good. Lava grill is a fantastic adventure. Good WiFi everywhere. What made our stay so wonderful was the people, management and staff. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly to the point where you felt like you were with family, truly an awesome group of people. We will return and highly recommend Great Bay Beach Resort.

Dirty rooms, unfriendly staff

I was so looking forward to this vacation. Yes I had read the reviews but thought they must just be picky people. No the rooms are dated, which I don't mind as long as they are clean. Well mine smelled so bad I had to finally have them move me after several complaints and a long wait at the service desk. Buffet was sparse, beach was full of cups and butts and most of the female staff were rude and unfriendly. I would not recommend this place unless you don't care that your $2500 dollars US was wasted.

The Little Resort that Could!

Just finished a 6 night 7 day stay at the Sonesta Great Bay and my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We are frequent resort visitors so our expectations are high, but within reason. The Rooms: We ordered the Serenity Ocean View room and upon arrival, received probably one of the worst ones in that block (R203), which had an obstructed ocean view into the back of the pool where workers parked their cars. Later that night we found roaches at our bedside table. We brought it up to the front desk and the problem was immediately dealt with and resolved. They moved us to a room on the Residence side of the resort with a spectacular ocean view and free of pests. Thomas was very helpful in helping us move rooms and ensuring that we were happy. He continued checking in on us a few days after and even helped us out with a car rental for $40USD per day! (Rather than us going with Hertz, which was the hotel company for $77USD per day.) The beach: The water can be a bit rough and choppy but on calmer days, it's great to go in. The resort is situated right in Great Bay and has the best view I have ever seen at a beach. Catch cruise ships coming in/out each day, and watch the mountains light up at night. Loungers were plentiful and always available, although the front row is hard to come by. Be careful of a sudden drop off when you first enter the water. The sand isn't the powder white sand you get in Cuba or Punta Cana but it's quite nice. The food: I highly recommend the lava rock experience! You can have it as many times as you want but it does require reservation. The buffet was also good and the fine dining upstairs wasn't bad - although they do overcook their meats by North American standards. My partner and I come from Toronto where good restaurants are plentiful (#foodsnob) so we always have lower expectations when it comes to food at resorts, but at the Sonesta, we were surprisingly impressed! Etc. We rented a car for 2 days and drove around the island. We managed to only hit 4 of the 37 beaches but had a blast! We went to Orient Bay (most swimmable), Mullet Bay, Maho Beach for the planes and to utilize the Maho resort, and Grand Case (a charming little beach town on the French Side).

Great Resort With An Awesome Location!

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Great Bay! The staff was by far one of the best we've experienced on a vacation. There are quite a few upgrades the hotel itself can make, but the staff kind of made up for that with their attentiveness and friendly demeanor. They must update their bathrooms, tubs are high and even though that's considered luxurious, it can be dangerous with ceramic tile floors. I had to call housekeeping several times for little things, but again the staff was kind and addressed the issue quickly. You need to find better toiletries as the ones provided did not smell and seemed rotten in odor. The food was excellent and had a great variety and the waitstaff was UBER friendly!! We're excited about trying Ocean Pointe Sonesta and overall this was a great first visit to a Sonesta property. We would definitely return...
