Ratings & Reviews
This is a large resort, very nice with plenty of restaurants. There is only one pool which is rather small and very crowded plus kids playing and loud music. The big downside is this resort is next to and at the end of the international airport so all day long you hear the plans taxing over for take off plus all the loud noise from the plans landing and taxing, the jet engine and prop noise never stopped, it was almost too much to take.
Just returned yesterday from a great vacation. After reading some pretty bad reviews and warning from travel agent we opted to stay at Sonesta Maho anyway because of the proximity to airport (watching planes take off and land. The staff was friendly and accommodating. At check in you are greeted with champagne cocktail and cool cloths. We jokingly said we preferred scotch and water. He disappeared and returned w/ 2 scotch and waters. Our room on 6th floor (pool/ocean views) was immaculate. Sitting on balcony watching planes, sailboats, yachts, cruise ships and a couple of tall ships was great. Our fridge was stocked daily with what we requested (extra water and Coors lite). Housekeepers were friendly and did a great job. We always had plenty of towels and washcloths. Had breakfast buffet at Palms daily, ate at the Point -beautiful view, and really enjoyed the pizza from the wood fired oven. Had lunch at the Yacht Club at Simpson Bay 3 times. It's located next to the drawbridge so you can watch the gigantic yachts and sailboats come through. Very casual and reasonably priced food, plus the help is a lot of fun. We took taxis $12 or you can take city bus. We took a tour of the island (booked thru Nexus in the lobby) Francisco, our driver was super knowledgeable an we made a lot of interesting stops Philipsburg, market place, salt ponds and of course nude beach on French side. Tour was a little pricey, but worth it. We had a lot of laughs at the pool bar at Sonesta Maho, Pool and grounds are very well kept. The Volley ball net next to swim up bar is a little strange, but fun to watch. Over all we had an awesome visit to a beautiful island and a wonderful hotel.
Visited on a business trip. Hotel is excellent for families and couples. It can improve options for business, as a business center with printer option. Noisy during the day because of the airport, but after 8pm there is no aircraft activity until 7am. Nearby business may be a little noisy, specially in lower floors, but inside rooms you don't get too much noise. Food is great in flavor and amount. Wi-Fi internet has an awesome coverage inside hotel grounds as well as all areas surrounding the hotel. In this, they excell. Room service and cleanliness is very good. Staff courtesy, friendliness and service at front desk and buffet area need to improve. By staying here you may also use facilities at Sonesta Great Bay, which offers a great view. There are also shopping options across the street. I look forward to return for a vacation with my family.
Nice hotel, very clean, close to the beach, close to the airport. Watching airplanes land and take off directly over the beach was very entertaining for everyone. The pool was beautiful, and the beach, though small, was very nice, very clean as well. We also visited Mullet beach and Orient beach. Very clean and very nice. The food and drinks were great, just great. I couldn't ask for more. I am very picky eater, but have to say the food was excellent. The two best restaurants were impossible to get reservations for. The staff was very friendly. Dorine and Sharon were always smiling and ready to make my cappuccino at any time of the day. Thank you girls! Shaquille is the friendly guy with the excellent customer skills, always ready to help you with your accommodations. We were on the 7th floor, ocean view. Worth every penny. Rooms outdated but very clean.
I visited friends staying at Sonesta, Maho on a day pass. I found the general atmosphere pleasant but the amenities could have been better. Also it took an hour to be seated for a dinner reservation booked two days in advance. The landscaping and pool were lovely and I very much enjoyed the piano lounge. They music was beautifully played and the pianist even had a diverse list of song to request from. He even invited willing guests come up and share their talents along side of him. making for a very lovely evening. I enjoyed the the pool and piano trivia games very much.
