Ratings & Reviews
Awesome place.. Very nice resort. Beautiful beach. Directly across from Casino Royale. In the center of shopping clubbing etc. Very courteous and professional staff. Very clean and very tropical. When you book here you get exactly what you are expecting. Beautiful turquoise water and warm temperatures. Also the amazing view of planes landing over your head literally within a few feet and planes taking off. Word of advice though, do not stand behind the Jet turbine engines when they are taking off to get a thrill. People have died from that. Be smart, be safe, get wasted and have a great time. The food on the resort could be better which is why it got 4 out of 5. However you are surrounded by great restaurants right outside the resort. Check out my review of Casino Royale as well. Great place and fair with payouts. Security could be a little better also but there is a security presence there. Travel safe live well !
The airport is next to the hotel, like good 10 minute walk. We took a cab from airport and cost us $10 but if you walk it I'm pretty sure you'll be at the hotel in 10 minutes. It's that close. Hotel had a long line to wait for room. Room was big, staff were nice, the pool was great! Just too many oldies. Like retirees. There were games for kids at the lobby, ping pong table and board games. Pretty neat!
Overall, the beach and entire area are gorgeous. I arranged this vacation for me and my older children (19-23). The resort is connected to a sister resort called the Sonesta Ocean Point. When we were booking the resort, they made it sound like there were many more reciprocal amenities than there actually are. The Sonesta Maho is a lesser resort geared more towards children. Not nearly as nice as the Ocean Point. Considering the amount of money we paid for the resort, it wasn't worth it. Our rooms looked out to the sewage treatment plant. The bathroom above us was leaking into our bathroom. When I asked for a room switch, they wouldn't accommodate. A friend ordered a bottle of champagne to be delivered on our arrival, and it never came. If he hadn't told me I would have never known. I had to argue to get them to check their records to confirm the purchase before we were given the bottle. The workers were rude, despite us bending over backwards to be polite. The level of clientele at the resorts is very different. We ended up setting up several excursions at additional cost, but it was worth it and salvaged the second half of the vacation. Will never stay at this resort again.
We stayed at Sonesta Maho Beach it was a very well kept and so convenient from airport, to shops, to fine dining, to casino. No car necessary it is all inclusive , but we choose to eat at hotel for breakfast and lunch, and beverages all day while enjoying the beach , Then GO OUT to the great restaurants just outside the hotel doors (walking distance). Do not miss them they are all incredible. making your visit here so much more enjoyable . Staff are very nice as is the hotel. Will go back, Our heartsand prayers go out to all the people there and hopes they are all well, and can rebuild after this terrible hurricane . Such devastation to a wonderful place.
For an all inclusive resort I would expect more. Rooms are dated.. we got "upgraded" to a 5th floor garden view... instead we got to see the roof of the neighborhood bar which played loud music all night. The loud music didn't bother us but the word "upgraded" did. The food however was great. Good selection and fresh. Staff was always grumpy. We probably saw two employees that actually smiled. Other than that they were all miserable. Mini casino was cool. Drinks were delicious.
