Nice stay

The resort is quite nice and good location. Room was comfortable, clean and well equipped kitchenette (not that I used it much). Only downside was that our room was up the hill and while the view is lovely there's no shortcut to the lobby area. Staff was nice in general. Very nice pool and the beach is beautiful and calm. Very convenient that for day trips to St Barths and Saba you take the boat (The Edge) right from the resort.

Much different than 4 years ago

We traveled here 4 years ago, and it since has undergone an entire renovation! We arrived on Saturday, March 18th and were booked in the Marina Building - penthouse. I specifically requested a building close to the water with an elevator, as we were traveling with out 86 year old mom. Every request was met! The marina building two bedroom suite was huge and immaculate! Perfect location. While the resort was very nice 4 years ago - its amazing now! The staff last time wasn't the friendliest, but this time, they were wonderful, maybe a new manager? Not sure, but I welcome the change. Week two we were in the Villas, which is where I stayed 4 years ago. Again, beautiful and pristine. Couldn't ask for more! The casino, restaurants, food store and souvenir shop, all on the grounds. So convenient! The free shuttle to take you to area restaurants saved us a lot of money. We had the breakfast included package and it was amazing. A huge buffet with enough food to satisfy all tastes. Our waitress, Sharnalee, was amazing. We asked for her daily. We had lunch daily at the Marina pool bar, with Laura as our bartender/food server. She is probably one of the nicest people I've ever experienced on a trip. Heart of gold. We were scheduled to be here for a week, in the Marina building. On the third day of our trip, our mom was rushed to the hospital, and had emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction. The next 10 days were days I would never want to relive. She was on the French side (the better hospital) and lets just say medical care isn't even as nice or as equipped as our doctors office. When we could not leave the island, I was put in touch with the hotel General Manager, Marcel Javois. From that moment on he assured me we had a room, until we were able to leave the island. Marcel, Laura & Sharnalee, would find us and check on us daily. Laura provided us with ice and cups to bring to mom (hospital there didn't even supply water!! let alone a cup!). After surgery my mom had complications, then a heart attack, she was in ICU with a call button that didn't work! We could only visit two hours a day, due to hospital rules. It was more than we could take. When speaking to Marcel one day we told him what was happening, and how we were at a loss, because we didn't speak French. He provided us with an employee to come to the hospital with us to translate. Finally, we had some answers! Our mom was finally was able to stabalize, but would require a full medical team to fly home with her. My mom and I were medically evacuated on Friday, March 31st. My sisters flew home commercially. Before any of this happened, I was amazed and how nice the rooms were with the renovation. The attitude of the staff had completely changed. I do not know when Marcel started there, or if he was the change needed, but whatever it is, keep doing it because you have a magnificent resort. I will never travel without travel insurance again! Expensive lesson learned. Story does have a happy ending. After a few days in a New York ICU mom went to regular hospital room. She's now in rehab for a few weeks to regain her strength. She's going to be just fine!

The resort was absolutely beautiful. We had the opportunity to meet a wonderful person on our stay and he really helped us have a great time. I highly recommend Bellman Stephen Harry who also has a private cab service. He recommended restaurants and activities these events were highlights of our trip.

A Definite Return Trip

First off, we got amazing assistance from Gerardo in the main office located in Cancun, before we even got to St Maarten. He set up our special requests and upgrades with ease so that, when we arrived, everything was in order! We were traveling with 4 adults and 2 kids (age 3 and 7) and stayed in the beachfront building called Flamboyant. It was a perfect walk to the beach, as well as to the Marina pool where Laura, the best bartender EVER, was stationed. We were in an end unit and each bedroom was on a separate floor, with murphy beds in the living room. The upstairs bedroom had an AMAZING ocean view from it's TWO balconies (one with an outdoor jacuzzi), but it was very hot. You definitely had to keep the blinds closed during the day and put the A/C on. It got a little uncomfortable, still, at night, but wasn't horrible. Definitely wished for better A/C. The other amazing view was off of the main area, which also had a balcony. The resort is situated on a hillside so, if you mind walking uphill a lot, I would recommend staying in the Marina, Flamboyant or Villas buildings. The others are a bit of a climb but I think they have a resort shuttle that also helps. If you walk do any of the close-by restaurants on Billy Folly Rd or Welfare Rd, I recommend cutting through the Villas building on your return trip to avoid a big climb to the other buildings. The service everywhere at the resort was amazing. Didn't really partake in the restaurants too much, outside of ice coffee at Bon Appetite and a couple breakfast buffets at the Mexican restaurant (not impressed - go to Toppers on Welfare for $9.99 breakfast buffet). The only other issue was the check-in / check-out process was a bit slow - but it was manageable. I can see it becoming a definite issue during a busier time. Last comment - the on-site grocery store, next to the souvenier shop & Red Piano, is very reasonably priced compared to any other nearby grocery store. Don't waste a trip into town before checking this store out - it's got almost everything you need and is just a walk from your room. We will DEFINITELY be coming back to this resort in the future - the service, location, and accommodations are great.
